1969 Sacred Heart Football State Champions

The 1969 State Championship was, according to one player, the result of great players, great coach and a confluence of fortune and luck, although luck as Mrs. Crawford once said was a result of what happens when preparation meets opportunity.

The team was lead by Galen Schmitz, a Topeka Capital All State player.  The team was laden with senior talent highlighted by a stingy defense that recorded eight shut outs, and gave up a total of 14 points in 10 games.  They still hold the state record for the most interceptions in a single game with 8.

This was Sacred Heart’s 1st State Championship team.
